Accreditation
RiverMead
received the award of accreditation through the Continuing Care Accreditation
Commission (CCAC), now known as CARF-CCAC in March 2002. CARF-CCAC accreditation
is widely regarded as the "seal of approval" for continuing care retirement
communities. CARF-CCAC awards public recognition to a community that, while carrying
out its stated mission and purposes, meets industry-generated standards of excellence. The
Continuing Care Accreditation Commission was founded in 1985 and is the sole accrediting
body for continuing care retirement communities. The accreditation process promotes
and maintains quality and integrity in retirement housing. The year-long
process involved an extensive self-evaluation by RiverMead's management, staff,
residents, and board of trustees, and an on-site evaluation by a CARF-CCAC review
team. To receive accreditation, communities must meet standards of excellence
in four main areas: governance and administration, financial resources and disclosure,
resident life and services, and resident health and wellness.
