AUSTRALIA: THE LAND DOWN UNDER, FORGED BY FIRE AND FORTUNE 

This five week course with Peter Henriques will explore the rich history of Australia.

The nation continent has a history starting in Dreamtime, inhabited by people wandering and living centuries before the first European sailing vessel sighted its shores.

Flag planting, convicts, settlers, Aboriginal discrimination, national awakening and today, a modern society bridging the West and Asia, whilst one the USA’s staunchest Allies over time and one of the five eyes.

Monday, March 3rd: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Monday, March 17th: 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm | Note change in time
Monday, March 24th: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Monday, March 31st: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

All classes will be held in the Mead Auditorium. 

COST:
This class is offered at no cost to RiverMead residents. For non-RiverMead residents, a fee of $25 per person is required, payable by check at the start of the first class.

 

Peter Henriques, a dual USA and Australian citizen, spent 40 years working in businesses across six continents while living on five. Peter’s international career started as a Peace Corps volunteer in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo, cementing his desire to live and work globally. Peter has held senior corporate roles across Australasia, Latin America, Asia, and the United Kingdom, including Board positions in India, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, and China. From 2012 through to his retirement in 2020, Peter led joint ventures with Government State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in Vietnam and China. Peter has a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Syracuse University and a Master's in International Affairs from Columbia University. In 2020, Peter joined the Syracuse University Boards of Hendricks Chapel and Alumni Rowing Association. In 2023, Peter joined Keene State University’s CALL Program as an Adjunct Professor.  Peter and family reside in Peterborough, NH
