Lara is celebrating a delightful full-circle moment in her life. Her very first job in high school, 26 years ago, was working in the dining room as a server for the newly opened RiverMead.

That impactful experience would lead her through several positions and sectors in the senior living industry, including working as an Activities Assistant, Sales and Marketing Assistant, Admissions and Marketing Director, Memory Care Director, Assistant Executive Director, CEO of Scott-Farrar at Peterborough, and now to the significant role of CEO of RiverMead.

Lara was born and raised in Peterborough, NH.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from the University of Rhode Island and her master’s degree in Eldercare Administration from Lasell College in Newton, MA.

Lara believes in a collaborative approach to leadership – the idea that a positive tone is set from the top. For her, everyone has value; staff, residents, their families, the town, and the state all play a role in the success of the community. That became very clear to Lara during the Covid pandemic when she and other senior living leaders in the state had to rely on each other for support, sharing, and dissecting new information, all with the common goal of keeping residents and staff safe.

What excites Lara about working in senior living is “it’s a unique and evolving industry to work in, where our residents come to us educated about lifecare and connected to the idea of community. They have done their research and have often involved their families in the decision. It can be a really fun phase of life. It can also be a complex phase of life where residents are looking for deep connections and ways to maintain independence and good health. The choice to come to RiverMead is an important and meaningful one – the people you surround yourself with become very important.”

Lara has a deep appreciation for RiverMead’s mission and nonprofit status. At the heart of that mission is a resident-centered approach and a commitment to a positive and supportive work environment.

Lara and her husband Jamieson appreciate living in Peterborough. “Peterborough is very unique – I love the culture, the easy access to outdoor recreation, the positive energy and feel of the community.” The Sheas enjoy traveling and both have a passion for the outdoors. Lara’s family lives locally and for that, she is grateful and enjoys spending time with them.
